little death valley

i fold in on myself
crumbles like earth
that hasn’t tasted water
whose tongue is carved with crevices
i fall
and misshape what is left
until
knees buried in that very dust
my only eyes beg to the sky
to flood me until
rain has filled the
most contorted hidden corners
and trickles fill dead river beds
