Perspective of importance
It's really no joy to lie in the dirt on a hot and humid summer's day with a black dark cloth over your head, swarmed by mosquitoes and crawling with ants. But there is no other way: I have to deal with it if I want to portray the plant personalities that have retreated here in a nature reserve on the river Lech. So I pack up my heavy large-format camera with all the necessary equipment and set up my photo studio directly on site. This is the only way to photograph the little plants on modern high-resolution black and white film and then enlarge them to human size.
Even if it's as exhausting as a hot and humid summer's day, isn't it the right attitude to get down on your knees in front of these creatures, to meet them at eye level? Which one of us is more important for the earth, who counts more? Which life has the greater value? We better change our perspective now. Let's start to do so in front of these plant portraits!
